Case study

From problem to working system

Problem

Screening model that evaluates a resume against a role's requirements with alias and adjacent-tool matching, treating required items as gates rather than score contributions, and returning each unmatched requirement as a specific thing to evidence or to build.

Solution

Screening model that evaluates a resume against a role's requirements with alias and adjacent-tool matching, treating required items as gates rather than score contributions, and returning each unmatched requirement as a specific thing to evidence or to build.

Architecture

The implementation combines the following technologies and system concerns.

Resume AnalysisSkills MatchingCareer ToolingNLP HeuristicsHiringSelf-Assessment

How it was built

  • Modelled screening as a gate rather than a similarity score, since missing one required item makes the weighted total irrelevant.

Security decisions

  • Compared two differently-weighted resumes against the same role, which is what shows that tailoring changes the outcome more than length does.

Major challenges

  • Matched on aliases and adjacent tooling so Splunk counts as SIEM evidence and Next.js counts as React experience.
  • Weighted requirements by how the posting frames them, keeping required and preferred items in separate accounting.
  • Reported the exact evidence matched per requirement, so a claim can be verified rather than trusted.

Verified evidence

Results and measurable impact

  • Weighted requirements by how the posting frames them, keeping required and preferred items in separate accounting.
  • Reported the exact evidence matched per requirement, so a claim can be verified rather than trusted.
  • Returned each gap as an action: name the tool you actually used, or build something small that earns an honest line.
  • Compared two differently-weighted resumes against the same role, which is what shows that tailoring changes the outcome more than length does.

No separate numeric outcome is documented, so this section shows shipped technical evidence without inventing metrics.

Every result points back to actual resume evidence. Required skills gate the screen, preferred skills improve rank.
